New Private Clouds updated to the VMware Cloud Foundation 5.2.1 stack within GCVE

This post discusses the recent announcement of vSphere 8.x availability within Google Cloud VMware Engine.

Google has announced general availability for the VMware Cloud Foundation 5.2.1 stack within Google Cloud VMware Engine. Any new private clouds will now deploy with VMware vSphere version 8.0 Update 3, NSX 4.2.1.2, and HCX 4.10.3.

This means that customers will be able to take advantage of the incremental changes made to vSphere 8.0 within their Google Cloud VMware Engine environments.

Benefits include:

  • Improved user interface with the vSphere client
  • vMotion performance enhancements
  • Increased efficiency due to improved resource utilization
  • Advanced security features such as new TLS version support
  • VMware Aria Suite capabilities
  • And more…

Upgrades of existing vSphere 7.x private clouds are expected to begin in June 2025. The latest service announcement has details with more information about the new VMware component versions, and what customers can expect from the upgrade process.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Make sure to check your e-mail addresses in Essential Contacts, so that you do not miss any important communications.
  • When Google notifies you of your upcoming update, you will be able to schedule maintenance windows in the Google Cloud VMware Engine Update Center.
  • To use VMware Aria with your new VCF 5.2.1 private cloud, open a GCVE Support ticket to get started.

Take away

Customers upgrading to vSphere 8.x can look forward to the enhanced security and stability that come with continued patches and updates. This ensures a reliable and protected environment, even as vSphere 7.x reaches its end-of-service life, giving you greater confidence in your infrastructure.
